HUNTINGTON -- Thousands of students spent their summer vacations going swimming, hitting the road for the beach or just vegging out at home in the AC.

John Bruce spent his summer vacation joining the ranks of Neil Armstrong, Steven Spielberg and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Granted, the last three may not have earned their Eagle Scout ranking during summer vacation, but all of the men listed above met the same requirements to earn the highest honor attainable in the Boy Scouts of America.

John Bruce earned his Eagle Scout medal on July 21, a little more than a month before the Huntington High School honors graduate began his freshman year at Marshall University.
