It is important to understand what the work "keeper" means. If you throw a little fish in, but keep a larger one, that's because it is a keeper. If you have a favorite marble as a child, you keep it forever, because it is a keeper. If there is something or someone you love more than just about anything, you keep it because--it's a keeper!!
Sometimes on clear, cold days, we wake up and find we have lost important things...a loved one, a friendship, a beloved pet--something very valuable and loved. We are struck with pain when we learn there will be no more hugs, no more special moments, and no more cold noses stuck into our hands when we are down.
Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away never to return...and often before we can say "good-bye" or "I love you". So while we have it...it is best we love it...and care for it...and fix it when it is broken...and heal it when it is sick.
This is true for relationships, antique cars, children, and old dogs with bad hips or aging bodies. We keep them because they are worth it--because WE are worth it!
Some things we keep...There are just some things that make us happy, no matter what. Life is important, like people who are special and cats and dogs who have made us smile and helped us grow into human beings...and so, we keep them close!
And by helping to fix and to heal the broken things in life, we heal something within ourselves...and that is why animals are so important...and why they are KEEPERS!!

"Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some people move our souls to dance.
They awaken us to new understanding with the pa*sing whisper
of their wisdom.
Some people make the sky more beatiful to gaze upon.
They stay in our lives for a while,
leave footprints on our hearts
and we are never the same."
In forever loving memory of Cody Lee Webber, 88-09
