HUNTINGTON -- Every time Little Victories Animal Rescue conducts an adopt-a-thon, the primary goal is to find good homes for their dogs and cats.

But many times, it's the awareness and public appearances that go a lot further, said board member Dr. Bill Webb. As an animal lover, he'd much rather see that all of the dogs and cats find loving homes, but he also understands that making people aware of the no-kill shelter and its needs is also important.

More than a half a dozen volunteers brought a handful of dogs and cats to Pullman Square Saturday to fulfill those goals. Numerous people stopped by to pet the furry friends and learn about the needs of Little Victories.

"We hope to collect as much money as we can for the medical fund," Webb said, adding that the fund is used to keep dogs and cats healthy and for spays and neuters. Also, none of the animals are adopted out without veterinarian clearance.

Webb and his wife have two dogs and seven cats of their own, plus they've been foster parents before. And to him, there's nothing more important than making sure man's best friend has someone to befriend.

"I get much more from them than I give," Webb said. "It's a labor of love."

Megan Graham, who spent time volunteering Saturday, said some of the animals are rescued from abusive homes and she doesn't understand how someone just can't love them.

"They're just like humans," Graham said. "They deserve to be loved. They have feelings, too."

The no-kill shelter also is in need of supplies such as dog and cat food, toys, leashes, cleaning supplies, collars, cat litter and trays, a riding mower, feeding pans as well as garbage cans and liners among other things.
